Obituary of Derek Brian Manthei

Derek Brian Manthei, age 41, of Little Canada, MN passed away unexpectedly on August 3, 2021 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Derek was born in Montevideo, MN to Julie Manthei (Mills) and Jeff Manthei on March 21, 1980. He attended school in Montevideo, worked various construction jobs in the Twin Cities, and was a member of the Minnesota Laborers and Local 563 Unions. Derek was an avid fisherman and loved being in the river or on the lake. He enjoyed craft coffee, playing basketball, watching sports, listening to music, and spending time with family, especially his daughters. He also enjoyed journaling and drawing and was both intellectual and artistic. He loved engaging in lively political debates with his mother. Derek was an organ donor and gave 3 others a second chance at life through his generous, selfless gifts. Derek is preceded in death by grandfather, Vernon Mills; grandmother, Beverly Berven; and grandfather, James Berven. He is survived by significant other, Anna Lantto, her son, Calvin and their daughter, Frankie Lantto; daughter, Sage Mecker; mother, Julie Manthei; father, Jeff Manthei; sister, Meagan and brother in law Corey (Drake, Foxx, Ava) Johnson; grandmother, Janice Mills, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 14 at White Bear Lake United Methodist Church, 1851 Birch St, White Bear Lake, MN (visitation at 9:30am, luncheon to follow service).
