George Perkins

Obituary of George Marshall Perkins

On Monday, January 11, 2021, George Marshall Perkins, known as “Perks” to friends, died at the age of 51 with his beloved Anca Bejan at his side.

George was born October 14, 1969, in Boston, MA, to Jeannette and George Perkins, and grew up in Milwaukee, WI, admired by his four younger siblings who always looked up to him. Schoolmates will remember him as he honed his humor in class; he continued to be known for his quick, dry wit. George graduated from the University of Minnesota, which drew him to Minneapolis. He reveled in showing off his chosen home city to family and friends who visited. He was also a rabid Gopher hockey fan. Above all, George lived for music, especially live music, and was a well-loved fixture in the live music recording community.

George is loved and will be missed by family, friends, and colleagues. He is survived by his parents; his siblings, Ann Leiker (David), Elizabeth Perkins, David Perkins (Amy Hufford), and Mary Perkins (Mike SanClements); and nephews and niece, Dakota, Nicholas, Mason, and Hadley.

His life will be celebrated later this year after the threat of Covid-19 ends. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Jazz88-KBEM, a broadcasting program for Minneapolis Public Schools at  jazz88.fm, and Daily-Work at daily-work.org, which supports at-risk, low-income job seekers.
