His wings were ready, but our hearts were not
Alvin “Corky” LaFleur, age 81 of Brooklyn Park, MN, loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully on August 8th, 2020 after a lengthy battle with medical issues. He was a fighter to the very end.
Corky is survived by his wife of 24 years Carol, children (and as he called them, his bonus children from God) Cheryl, David, Bob, Brett, Cody, Ollie, Christina, Keyaira, Vonna, and Angela, as well as their significant others, his grandchildren Samantha, Austin, Skyler, Braham, and Ashur. His father-in-law/friend Jim, his baseball youth, and athletes from Special Olympics Minnesota. He will be missed by all especially his furry grandkids Izzy, Ian, & Apollo. We would be amiss to not recognize two very special friends/family members/care givers Dan and Amanda better known as AJ. We are thankful for their loving support over many years.
Corky was preceded in death by his dad Alvin, mom Beulah, son Curt, mother-in-law Jane, brothers Wendell, Bob, and Ron, cousin Vernon, & his furry companion Murphy.
Corky was born in Saint Paul, MN. Over the years, he moved to Wyoming, California, Colorado, and then back to Minnesota. He loved to fish, golf, and coach Little League baseball for the Brooklyn Park Athletic Association, attend Special Olympic Minnesota events, Law Enforcement Truck Convoy, & attending Pow Wows.
Corky was a true people person. No matter if you were family, friend, or stranger, he always had an open ear for anyone who needed it. His motto was “If you can do something about it, change it. If you can’t, then let it go.” His zest for life was remarkable, and when you would count him out, he would fight even harder. Life is short and Corky enjoyed every moment.
Gratitude to the many who sat by his bed at the hospital & home throughout the long nights. Special thanks to Fairview Hospice, MCIL, Nurse Jenna, Cathy , Bill , Derek , Jon, Dean , Mary , Cora, Brenda, Alex, Christopher, Ronica and her girls, Jim , Sissy, Brandon , Mandy , David , KeyAnna, Bobby , Brett, Cody , Daniel, Dan , and Amanda. You all helped make him comfortable in his last days on this earth.
We would like to thank our American Indian Family from multiple Tribal Nations, Brooklyn Park Athletic Association, Brooklyn Park Ambassador Program (Melissa, Tait, & family), Special Olympics Minnesota, and truckers across the states, Law Enforcement from Metro Transit Police, Brooklyn Center Police, Brooklyn Park Police, Minneapolis Police, Maplewood Police, and Department of Public Safety for their support over the years.
A private graveside service and burial will be held at Fort Snelling. There will be a Celebration of Life August 22, 2020 11-3PM at 1216 87th Ave No. Brooklyn Park MN 55444 where we can all share stories of Corky and his life, as well as laugh and cry together.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the family. Condolences can be sent in care of Carol LaFleur, 1216 87th Ave North Brooklyn Park, MN 55444.
