What a beautiful life well-lived! Aunt Catherine is my godmother. I will remember forever her spirit, her humor, her well-intentioned directness, and her love of family. Independent and adventurous are spot-on descriptions of her personality. One very special thing I will always cherish, which I still keep in my night stand and have continued to periodically use, is a rosary she brought me from the Vatican, blessed by Pope Pius XII. She got it during her trip to Europe -- I'm thinking 1953?? I was 2. I also remember a toy semi-truck she got me for Christmas when I was about 6 or 7. Red cab, green trailer. Unfortunately, that's no longer with me, but I got more than my fair share of good use of it. One of my favorite toys ever, with a fond memory of her. And, who among us will ever hear the word "Manhattan" without thinking of Aunt Catherine? And I'm not talking about the New York City borough. Rest in peace, Godmother. And say hi, with a big hug, for our mom, Margaret. She loved you very much. Thank you for being a good sister and friend to her. To my cousins: may the Peace of God surround you and hold you up during this difficult time, and for all the days to come.
