91, of Cottage Grove, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2019

Earl was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota on November 20, 1927. He was a 1945 Park High graduate before attending the University of Minnesota Agriculture School. Earl served as a radio operator in the U.S. Army in Germany, and received the National Defense Service Medal.

Earl married Patricia Ladd on October 1, 1949. They settled in Newport and celebrated over 65 years of marriage. They were faithful members of First Baptist Church of St. Paul.

Earl was an avid bridge and cribbage player, and enjoyed orchids and woodworking. He has been described as “one of the good guys” – always a gentleman, the best of his generation.

Earl is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Sandra; and 3 brothers, Howard, Robert, and George. He is survived by his son, Dr. Eric (Cynthia) Swanlund; daughter, Sara Swanlund; 5 grandchildren: Suzy (Andy); Eric (Maggie); CJ (Jason); Samantha; Sandra; and 2 great grandchildren: Levi and Ariana.

Memorial service at 7:30pm on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the Cremation Society of MN-St Paul Location, 1979 Old Hudson Road. Visitation starts at 6:00pm.
