Obituary of Donald W. Schroeder

Donald W. Schroeder of Cloquet, MN died March 4, 2019. He was born Sept 2, 1923 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. He graduated in 1941 from Sturgeon Bay, WI High School. He served during World War II as 1st Sergeant of the Headquarters Company at the 13th Replacement Depot in Oahu, Hawaii and later was transferred to the Middle Pacific Headquarters for the remainder of the war. In the fall of 1947 he enrolled at Lawrence College, Appleton, WI, as a student in the Conservatory of Music. There he met fellow Conservatory student, Pauline Kokke. They were married in 1950 between their junior and senior years and graduated together in the spring of 1951. That fall Don took a position to teach vocal music in the Cloquet Junior and Senior High Schools. In the Senior High School he also taught Music Theory, Humanities and had a Madrigal group, and a Handbell Choir, which performed in the area. He served the Cloquet Schools for 32 years retiring in 1983. During his years of teaching and after retirement he also directed the choir of the Presbyterian Church of Cloquet for 35 years.

Donald is survived by his wife Pauline of 68 years, daughter, Roberta (Greg), three grandchildren, Marcie, Amy, one great grandchild Natalie; Jonathan, (Megan), two great grandchildren Finley & Addison; son Timothy (Rebecca), three grandchildren Jacqueline (Terry), two great grandchildren Hayden & Ella; Madeline, Skye. Preceding Donald in death were his brother, Robert, two half-brothers, Allen and Walter, and a half-sister, Henrietta.

A Memorial Service will be held in Cloquet at the Presbyterian Church on June 15th at 1 p.m.
