Elizabeth White

Obituary of Elizabeth White

Elizabeth “Betty” White was born January 13, 1924 in Denver, Colorado and passed away peacefully on June 3, 2015 at Colonial Acres in Golden Valley. Preceded in death by her parents, George and Ellene White and her brother, Dick. Betty, who has lived in Minneapolis for nearly 70 years, was a gifted educator with the Mpls Public Schools where she taught very lucky children and worked in curriculum providing resources and mentoring to equally lucky teachers and coworkers. She was an accomplished writer and a talented wordsmith, known for her wit and wisdom. Never excessive, she could take anyone's lengthy paragraph and distill it into one perfect thought. A true Anglophile, she loved all things British, had a love for reading, doing the crosswords, browsing through bookstores, tending her lovely gardens, and enjoying good theatre. True to her English heritage, she adored tea and scones, children, dogs and cats, and Agatha Christie. Her favorite activity was sitting under a tree on a hillside dotted with sheep, sketching and taking in God's creation. Her openness, her moral and intellectual strengths regarding truth, love, and honesty, and her ability to make everyone feel special defined who she was. She will fondly be remembered as a woman of faith, a paragon of integrity, and a gracious, loving friend by all who knew her. She is survived by her sister, Peg, of Colorado, her brother, George, her good friend, Ginny, and a host of other friends and family from Minnesota to Colorado to California. We were blessed to have her in our lives. Memorial service will be held on Monday, June 8 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Colonial Acres in Golden Valley.
