Obituary of Alvin Carl Anderson

Alvin Carl Anderson passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Ecumen Scenic Shores in Two Harbors surrounded by his loving family. Alvin was born on Nov. 8, 1932 in Duluth, to the late Alphonse and Gertrude (Amundson) Anderson. Alvin grew up commercial fishing on Lake Superior with his family and enjoyed guiding fishing excursions from Bluebird Landing. He graduated from Clover Valley High School in 1950. Alvin proudly served his country in the Navy during the Korean Conflict for four years aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge. He was awarded the National Defense Medal and Good Conduct Medal. On Aug. 4, 1953 he married Alice (Judy) Smith of Superior, Wis. They made their home in Duluth and together raised six children. He retired from the Post Office after 28 years of faithful service. After retiring he enjoyed his time on the North Shore at Hollow Rock, playing cards and fishing with Judy, family and friends. He also enjoyed deer hunting, and especially loved time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Art and loving wife Judy of 57 years on Feb. 19, 2014. He is survived by daughters, Roxanne (Andrew) Sternberg, Mary (Mike) Halter; sons, Wayne (Jenny), Robert (LaBelle), Art (Darcy), and Bill; grandchildren Nichole, Christopher, Tony (fianc Loni), Andy, Greg, Michelle, Scott, Missy, Tyler, Amanda, Corey and Robbie; great-grandchildren Kayleigh, Chloe, Riley and Allyson, Calvin, Spencer and Madelyn, Brea, and Alexa; twin sister Alvera (Herb) Pierson; numerous nieces and nephews and lifelong best friend Merle Norgren. The family thanks all of the caring staff at Ecumen Scenic Shores who provided exceptional care and comfort to Alvin and his family in his final days. He will forever be loved and remembered by his family and friends. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2015 in the Clearwater Grille 5135 N. Shore Drive Duluth, MN 55304.
