Obituary of Eugene L Anderson

Eugene L. Anderson, Jr., of Duluth, 74, passed away due to complications of C.O.P.D., on Saturday, June 20, 2015. Eugene was born to Eugene W. and Delphine G. Anderson on Oct. 5, 1940, in Bagley, Minn. He worked at Matheson Tire for many years and retired from Zenith Spring in June, 2002, after 20 years. Eugene served in the U.S. Army for three years as a small fire arms repairman and he also belonged to the First Infantry. Eugene was a member of the American Legion Post No. 71 for nearly 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his wife's family in Michigan and his family and grandchildren here in Duluth. Eugene enjoyed working on cars in his younger years, loved fishing and Sunday afternoons Bar Bingo at the American Legion, Post No. 71. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lorraine Folds Anderson; step-dad, George Bennette; brothers-in-law, Wally Cadotte and Charles Cox; sister-in-law, Charlene Anderson; son-in-law, Sam Hathaway; and nephew, Bryon Hollatz. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughter, Brenda Hathaway, of Duluth; sisters, Darlene (Mark) Hollatz, Beverly Cadotte and Barbara Randolph, all of Duluth; brother, Paul Steven, of Phoenix, Ariz.; stepson, Jeff (Jean) Anderson, of St. Paul; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; also his cat , his furry friend, Eli, which he called his "puppy". A special thank you for all nurses and staff at St. Eligius, thank you for being so caring. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, in the American Legion club, 5814 Grand Avenue. A short memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. followed by the Duluth Honor Guard presentation.
