Helga Poulter

Obituary of Helga L Poulter

Helga L. "Peggy" Poulter, 92, passed away peacefully June 24, 2015 at her home. Peggy was born in Cumberland, Wis., to Gust and Jessie Olson. She married her husband Larry after he returned from World War II in 1946 and lived in Milwaukee Wis., until Larry was called up for the Korean conflict. After Larry came back to the states they moved to Duluth and lived on Park Point before moving to their home in Lakeside where she resided for the last 58 years. It is appropriate that Peggy was born on the first day of spring. She had the personality to always bring in the good, clean, freshness one associates with that time of year. Her good nature and kindheartedness and genuine love for others touched many people even if it was just in passing. She took great pride in being a mother and homemaker. While her sons were growing up she was very involved in supporting their growth whether it was the school PTA, Cub Scouts, church school or attending their functions. After retiring from the Glass Block in 1985, she took interest in paying forward by volunteering for preparation of Meals on Wheels and later, delivering them with Larry. It was really important for her to be able to see and visit, if briefly, those who were shut in. She knew how important the human contact was as well as showing those people that someone cared. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Senior Friend Home Care, especially Paula and Jan, and Essentia Hospice Care. Their kindness and caring allowed Peggy to stay in her home until her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Anton and sisters Adeline and Dorothy. Peggy is survived by her husband of 69 years Larry; two sons Robert (Barbara) of Duluth and William (Peg) of Cohasset; five grandchildren (Leslie, David, Jenny, Laura, Brad); two great-grandchildren (Patrick, Bryce) and her sister Edna (Bud) Nesvold. VISITATION: 1 p.m. Monday June 29 until the 2 p.m. Memorial Service in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Duluth. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
