Obituary of Margaret Joan McKay

McKay, Margaret Joan 88, of Bloomington, died Thursday, July 2, 2015 with her family by her side. She and her twin sister Jean were born January 4, 1927 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, Canada to Roderick and Elizabeth Dingwall. She spent time in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, before attending the University of Minnesota. It was there that she met her future husband, Wallace McKay. The couple married in Cornwall, on September 3, 1949 and enjoyed nearly 66 wonderful years together. Margaret's life was filled with many joys but she was particularly proud of the many years she spent with Helen Leach and Sally Hill directing Dinner at Your Door, a home meal delivery program, in the south Lake Minnetonka area. Margaret is survived by her husband, Wallace; children Peter (Roxanne) of Temecula, CA, David (Ranee) of Minneapolis, and Patricia (Tim) of Lakeville; brother in laws Dr. Howard Steele, Kingston, ON, Dr. Ian Gregory, Columbus, OH, and sister in law Karen Dingwall, Toronto, ON; as well as many nieces and nephews in both the U.S. and Canada. Margaret was a loving grandmother to Jenna, Whitney, Torey, Christopher, Aparna, and Ashwini and great grandmother to Mia, Ellie, Sage, Avery, Nikhil, and Kieran. She was preceded in death by her sisters Jean Gregory and Mary Steele, and brothers James and William Dingwall. Margaret carried fond memories of her childhood days in Rosetown, SK and Cornwall, ON. While Margaret became an American citizen, her heart carried an abiding love for her native Canada and its people. A memorial service is scheduled July 15 at 11am with visitation beginning at 10 am at the Edina Chapel, Cremation Society of Minnesota 7110 France Avenue S, Edina, MN 55435. Special thanks to the staff at Founders Ridge and Methodist Hospital Hospice Interment will be July 16 at 11 am at the Scotland Cemetery, Rural Fillmore County MN. Following Margaret's wishes memorials are preferred to one of the many area food programs.
