Obituary of Elizabeth Johnson

Elizabeth Johnson passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the St. Luke's Hospital Hospice. She was 98 years young! Prior to marrying Bob, Elizabeth worked as legal secretary in the Trust Dept. of the former 1st & American National Bank for 10 years. After raising her children she became the office secretary to the Housekeeping Dept. of St. Luke's Hospital where she was employed for 14 years until retirement. She often mentioned it was one of the best experiences of her life. Elizabeth was a graduate of Central High School, attended Duluth Teacher's College and had professional legal secretarial training. She was a life-long member of the former Bethel Baptist Church and a 55 year member of PEO (a philanthropic and educational organization). She and Bob traveled to 22 countries during their retirement. In August 2014 she moved from her home to Pines III where she enjoyed living, the staff and the new friends she made. She was a dedicated hockey fan and loved listening to talk radio. Until recently, she was an avid reader and a competent Sudoku and crossword puzzle player, enjoyed entertaining family and friends with her great cooking, and in later years going out with friends for morning coffee twice a week. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Bob, and brothers Reuben and Floyd and sister, Virginia (LeDuc). She is survived by her children Gail (Gary) Karger of North Oaks, Minn., Mark (Jill) of Greeley, Colo., and Barbara (Mark) Quigley of Doylestown, Penn. She was the loving grandmother of Eric and Amy Johnson and Jennifer (Gatti) and Brian Quigley. She was recently blessed with a new great grandson, Luca (Gatti). She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Pines, Benedictine Health Center, the staff and Hospice care at the hospital, and especially Dr. Steven Long. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 at the Forest Hill Cemetery Chapel 2516 Woodland Ave, Duluth. The family will greet guests one half hour before the service.
