Obituary of Kathryn J. Leslie
Leslie, Kathryn J. 78, died on Friday, July 10, 2015, in Minneapolis, MN, surrounded by family and friends. She passed away peacefully after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. Kathryn Leslie was born on May 4, 1937, in Winnebago, Minnesota, to Doris (Whitehead) and Allen Leslie. She grew up in Winnebago and Vernon Center with brothers Ron, Larry, and Bill. Kathryn graduated from Garden City High School in 1955, and attended the University of Minnesota. She married her first husband, Raymond Herje, in 1956, and they had four children - Stephen, Robert, Brian, and Leslie. Kathryn had a long career as an International Travel Agent, which complimented her life-long love of travel. She shared many of these adventures with her children, friends, and companions. No one had a greater zest for exploring the world's cuisines, cultures, and beauty than mom. Kathryn was active in her community, serving as Chair of the Golden Valley Parks and Recreation Commission and on the Brookview Park Board. She was a community activist committed to supporting global causes, including hosting international exchange participants through the Twin Cities International Program. Kathryn Leslie's children, grandchildren, and friends will most remember her for her generosity of spirit, always finding a place for anyone at the table for any holiday or occasion. There was no one who loved Christmas more than mom, and we will miss her delicious home-cooked meals, particularly her au gratin potatoes! She is survived by her three sons, Stephen (Mike), Robert (Laurie), and Brian, daughter, Leslie, and long-time companion, John Erickson. She is also survived by four adored grandchildren, (Corey, Nicole, Nathan, and Samantha), one great grandchild (Raiha), numerous cherished nieces and nephews, and loving brothers Bill (Diane) and Larry (Sheila), and sister-in-law Sharry. She was preceded in death by her parents Allen and Doris, and brother Ron. The family thanks the numerous friends and family who helped support Kathryn throughout her illness. A mom's request, a small, private service will be held at a later date. As a memorial, the family suggests donations to the Breast Cancer Research Fund.
