Obituary of Mark Douglas McCulley

McCulley, Mark Douglas Age 62, of Maple Plain, went home to be with his heavenly Father on July 21, 2015, after a farm accident. Survived by sisters Pat Hasse (John), Jan Loomis (Ed) and Wendy McCulley; nieces and nephews Renee Hasse, Sara Ofstead (Tony), Rod Hasse (Jen), Rachel Sturgis (Sam), Joel Loomis (Heidi) and Anna Befort; great-nieces and nephews Darius Hasse, Lily and Wyatt Hasse, and Hazel and Chandler Sturgis; and many beloved friends. Preceded in death by parents Douglas and Merna McCulley. Mark was born Nov. 13, 1952 in Hennepin Co. He was a farmer all his life, receiving his first turkey poults from his father when he was 12 years old. After earning an agricultural degree from the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of the fraternity Alpha Gamma Rho, Mark joined his father in the family business, a progressive and successful farming operation that raised turkeys, swine, beef cattle, corn and soybeans. A member of the Farm Bureau, he held many leadership positions within the farm community, including a term as president of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association. He was a third-generation member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and deacon and sang beautifully in the choir. He had a rare blood type and would faithfully answer emergency calls, stop work, and rush to the donation site. He was also the leader of a men's support group and a beloved member of a prayer and spiritual growth group. A proud Scot, Mark loved to travel, cook and sing. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle and friend who touched many lives with his music, his joy, his love and his faith. Celebration of life will be held Sat., Aug. 1, at 10:30 am at First Presbyterian Church of Maple Plain. Lunch will follow at the McCulley farm: 2112 Co. Rd. 92 N., Maple Plain. Private interment at Lewis Cemetery. Memorials preferred to First Presbyterian Church of Maple Plain's youth programs.
