Obituary of Carl Herbert Peterson

Carl Herbert ("Herb") Peterson, Jr. passed away on July 27, 2015 at Bayshore Health Care Center after along battle with Parkinson's and heart disease. Carl was born Feb. 20, 1948 in Duluth, Minn. After graduating from Duluth Central High School in 1966, he served our country in the Navy during the Vietnam War. A fond memory of his time in the service was having the ship's captain "request" his being the ship's Santa Claus. After his honorable discharge, Carl returned to Duluth and attended Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College and majored in computers and electronics. Upon graduation he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, Garon Knitting Mills and Twin Ports Cyclery. Carl was an avid bicyclist and a member of the local cycling club. Although Carl's medical condition prevented him from riding, he continued to have a strong interest in bicycling and would never miss a broadcast of cycling events. Carl was an expert mechanic and could fix just about anything. He was also a model-building enthusiast. Carl was preceded in death by his father Carl Herbert, Sr. and mother Agnes. Carl is survived by his sisters Leona Krieg of Duluth and Shirlie (Jeffrey) Theis of Milwaukee, Wis,; brother Roger (Debra) of Duluth; nieces Stephanie Krieg and Jennifer Peterson of St. Paul, Minn.; nephews Brian Krieg and Mathew Peterson of Duluth; aunt Dorothy Peterson of Luck, Wis.; and many cousins. The family wishes to extend our special thank-you and appreciation to Drs. Goellner and Powell, and the staff at Bayshore Health Care Center and St. Luke's and Essentia Hospitals.
