Obituary of Donald Godden

Donald Duane Godden, age 55, longtime resident of Duluth, Minn., passed away peacefully Aug. 13, 2015. He was born June 13, 1960 in Duluth to Henry and Alice Godden. He was a 1978 graduate of Central High School in Duluth. On Nov. 25, 1978, Don married Terri Bartelt. They welcomed twin daughters Michelle and Melissa into the world Aug. 27, 1979. Don enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in January 1981, and was honorably discharged in November 1986. He worked several years in the logging business and later enjoyed owning and operating his own trucking business, Don Godden Trucking. On Feb. 26, 1998, Don married Penny (Rein) Miller. Don had an extreme passion for racing. He loved spending time with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and was often joking around or pulling pranks on people. Don is preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers John and Tom, nephew Jeremy Godden. and stepfather Ken Carpenter. Don is survived by his loving wife Penny of Duluth; twin daughters Melissa (Aaron) Olson of Ashby, Minn. and Michelle (Troy) Lohse of Elbow Lake, Minn.; stepsons Justin Miller of Eagan, Minn. and Corey (Beth) Miller of Proctor, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Torin, Addison, Aaron Jr. and Bentley Olson, Jordan, Adam, Ashlyn and Jada Lohse, and Emmett and Wayne Miller; former wife Terri Christianson of Evansville, Minn.; brothers and sisters Susan Buresh, Robert, David (Joetta), Mary Van Guilder, Richard (Susan), and Nancy (Pete) Remer; stepbrothers and sisters Larry Sandretsky, and Cindy, Kim, Kerry, Becky and Kevin Carpenter; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. VISITATION: 9 a.m. gathering of family and friends until the 10 a.m. memorial service Tuesday, Aug. 18 at the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave., 218-624-5200.
