Obituary of Richard Dale Hanson

Richard Dale Hanson 79, died in his home Aug. 14, 2015. He was born Sept 17, 1935 to Selmer and Selma Hanson of Cloquet, Minn. Dick graduated from Cloquet High School. His jobs began as a paper boy, stock boy at National T Groceries and then at the Paper Mill in Cloquet. He worked as a communication craftsman; a trade he learned while serving in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1956. After which he began his main career of 33 years with AT&T. He married the love of his life, Jeannette Ann Doty on Nov. 14, 1954, and was married for almost 51 years. They raised their six children in Fredenberg, Minn. Dick was a member of the Fredenberg Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter for over 40 years, including several years of serving as the Fire Chief. He served as a State Fire Warden for as long as we can remember. Being involved in the community of Fredenberg was important to Dad, where he served on various township boards including some of the following: Noble Hill Cemetery, Art Welty Recycling Center, and volunteered and supported Beaver River Christian School. He was a member of Fredenberg Community Chapel for over 50 years. He was a Trustee, Bible Study Leader, Sunday School Leader, and helped to keep the church running for many years. Dick provided well for his family by spending a lot of time in the woods both hunting and fishing. Dad had a lot on Island Lake; Mom had Her lot on the other side of the lake. The kids that wanted to fish would come to Dad's side of the lake and if you wanted to play and swim, you would go to Mom's side of the lake. Dick always has a story to share and was full of trivia facts, enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were his pride and joy! He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette and his parents. Dick is survived by his children, Sheryl Hanson of Duluth, Dennis Hanson of Fredenberg, Ellen LaMae of Fredenberg, David (Gerri) of Fredenberg, Karen ( Robert) Moore of Anchorage, Alaska and Donna (David) Kohne of Cloquet; 27 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Dorothy Bergman and many, nieces and nephews, and cousins.
