Obituary of Elsie Sandahl

Elsie (Melin) Sandahl, 89, joined her waiting family in Heaven Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015. She passed away at her home from a long term illness, surrounded by her family. Elsie was born July 31, 1926 in Superior to John and Flora (Willoughby) Melin. A lifelong resident of Superior, Elsie was a graduate of Central High School. In 1947, Elsie graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She went on to work at St. Joseph's Hospital in Superior and Chaffey's Nursing Home. Elsie was a member of Wisconsin Nurses Association. Elsie was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, P.L.C.W. and the Priscilla Circle. She loved her family most of all. Elsie married Roy Sandahl on Aug. 18, 1962. She enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on Big McGraw Lake and in her garden, from which came many of her pickles, shared with the whole family. In the winter she could be found knitting or sewing. Elsie was also very good with drawing, painting, ceramics and her children and grandchildren could always count on her for a story. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents, John and Flora; brothers, John and Walter "Bud". She is survived by her children, Patricia Jones and Rebecca (Bill) Jonasen all of Superior, Terri (Skip) Ferris of Gilbert, Minn. and Steven Jones of Superior; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Scharte and Katherine Sweeney of Superior and Betty Melin Foster of Federal Way. Wash. At Elsie's request there will be a celebration of her life Saturday, Aug. 29 beginning at 1 p.m. at 5379 E. County Rd. C, Superior.
