Obituary of Lorin Drexel Dawson
Dawson, Lorin Drexel, M.D.
Age 97 of Worthington passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Burnsville, MN on August 17, 2015. Born June 28, 1918 at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, IL and raised in Rice Lake, WI. He attended the University of Wisconsin Medical School graduating in 1942, serving his internship at University of Pennsylvania Graduate Hospital from July, 1942 to July, 1943. He married his wife, Margaret in May of 1943. Dr. Dawson entered the US Army serving in the Pacific Theatre from 1943 to 1946 earning a silver star, bronze star and combat medic award. After WWII, he established a general practice in Newtowne Square, PA. Then, he moved his practice to Milbank, S.D. and remained there until 1949. Dr. Dawson completed his surgical residency at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis. He established a surgical practice in Worthington in August, 1954 where he served the community until retirement in 1987. During his retirement, Dr. Dawson pursued his love of reading, fishing, gardening, camping and enjoying his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; sister, V. Elizabeth Franke; brother, Kenneth; parents, Dr. Drexel and Louise Dawson.
Survived by daughters, Kathryn Dawson Hanson, Margaret Dawson and Laura Dawson; grandsons, Mark Hanson and Michael Hanson; great granddaughter, Kaleigh Hanson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Interment will be held in Scottland, IL with a private memorial service.
