Obituary of Roger G. Fjone

Roger passed away peacefully after a long illness early on Tuesday morning at home with his children by his side. He was born on June 7, 1936 to Grant B. and Elsie R. (Anderson) Fjone. Roger graduated from Denfeld in 1954. He enlisted in the army in 1954 and was a Veteran of the Korean conflict. After being Honorably discharged and surviving an industrial accident, he graduated from University of MN - Duluth in 1963. He was employed by the MN Dept. of Transportation as a Right of Way Agent until his retirement in 1998. He served in the 148th Air Guard for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 71. Roger was always quick witted, loved to laugh and joke around, and enjoyed sharing stories. He had a beautiful voice and there are many memories of him casually singing or whistling his favorite songs. Roger also enjoyed playing and coaching hockey, traveling, fishing, camping, hunting, four wheeling, westerns and a good pinch of snuff. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Roger G. Fjone Jr., his brother Dale A. Fjone and his grandson, Aaron Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, D. Marlene, his son Paul W. Fjone and his daughter Kristi K. (Scott) Konu, stepsons Bruce Nelson, Bradley (Lisette) Nelson and Barry (Sandy) Nelson. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and his sister, Shirley (Momchilo) Vucenich along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 2 pm with Memorial Service at 3 pm Saturday, May 12, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth, MN.The family would like to thank Pastor Matthew Kohl for the spiritual guidance he provided. We would also like to thank Dr. Sreedhar Devathi, Dr. Paul Tonkin, and all of the Physicians, Advanced Practitioners, Nurses and the other wonderful staff members at Essentia East and St. Croix Hospice for the heart-centered compassionate care that was given to our loved one. The family requests memorials to Essentia Health East Foundation or Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota in lieu of flowers.
