Obituary of Eleanor R. Lack

Eleanor R lack To all her family and friends, we share the sad news of our mother’s passing. Our mom was born Nov. 2, 1924 and passed away May 2, 2018 at the age of 93. A bit about her life: Eleanor was born in Bellingham, Minnesota, near the South Dakota border. She was the youngest of 11 children, graduating from high school in 1943. Then WWII started. Mom moved to Oregon where she worked in a shipyard as a welder until the war ended. She then moved to the Hutchinson area where she found a job waitressing at our grandparents’ restaurant, The L & S Café. It was there she met Hartwill Lack, whom she later married in December of 1945. Eleanor gave birth to three children: Gene, Gary, and Candy. Over the years, our family lived in Hutchinson and on Lake Washington. Our mom worked at 3M for 20 years. Following retirement she became an active member of the VFW Auxiliary (past president), MOCA (president 2 years), 8/40 (past president), Legion Auxiliary member and Hospital Auxiliary volunteer. Mom’s favorite social activities included card clubs, sewing, quilting, piano, church, backyard gardening, hosting garage sales, her neighbors, feeding birds and of course, her pets. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling, and loved going out Saturday nights dancing cheek to cheek with our dad. Hardy and Eleanor will be laid to rest, together, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Friday, June 29th at 12:30 PM. We will gather at 12:10 PM at Fort Snelling in Gate 2; Assembly Area #5. Our brother Gary passed away in 2017, and our dad, Hartwill, passed away in 2001. Music; it was the center of peace in our mom’s life. Peace to you all as well. -Eleanor’s children; Candy Lack and Gene Lack
