Obituary of Harry Walter Crumpton

Harry Walter Crumpton, 62, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, after a long battle with leukemia and kidney failure. He was born in Minneapolis on March 20, 1953, to Harry and Merlyn Crumpton. After graduating from Washburn High School, he went to work for the Hennepin County Library, where he met Linda Anselment, who he married in 1974. In 1978, following the birth of their daughter Lara, they moved to Silver Bay, where Harry worked at the Municipal Lounge and Reserve Mining Co. He graduated from the DAVTI in 1983 and the family moved to Cloquet where he worked for Valmet Automation at USG. He later took a job as an Instrumentation Technician at Potlatch/Sappi. Harry was a talented woodworker who filled his families' homes with custom pieces. A habitual prankster, he managed to get himself in trouble on more than one occasion. He delighted his in-laws with "creative" photo shopped portrayals of them. He graced unexpected recipients with questionable bumper stickers, filled his daughter's yard with an army of solar butterfly lights, and he filled his coworkers days with a treasure chest of deviously curated practical jokes. Above all else, he was known for being good, kind and generous beyond measure. His family is uncertain how the hole his absence leaves will be filled, but he did leave an entire case of pink urinal cakes in the basement... Harry was preceded in death by his parents; and his father-in-law, Lee Anselment. Harry is survived by Linda, his wife of 41 years; his beloved daughters, Lara (Nathaniel) Wilkinson of Cloquet and Nora Crumpton (Cooper Mickelson) of Baudette. He is also survived by three much-loved grandchildren, Noel, Sophie and Jack Wilkinson; his brother, Tom Crumpton; and all of the Anselment in-laws, who loved him as a true brother. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at the Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery in Silver Bay.
