Obituary of Agnes Usher

Agnes “Diane” Usher died Saturday, September 19, 2015 due to natural causes, surrounded by family. She was deeply cherished by family and friends for her positive, kind, strong, and fun-loving personality. She especially enjoyed pranking and teasing her children. Diane was born in Chickasaw County, Iowa on July 14, 1928 to Roger and Enid Smith. She grew up with eight siblings on a farm near Nashua, Iowa (home of the Little Brown Church). Diane loved big family gatherings and watching wildlife from the window of her home on the Mississippi River in Cohasset. She enjoyed many hobbies: doing crafts, reading, painting nature scenes, going to garage sales, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Diane married Maurice “Lew” Usher on May 31, 1947. Her husband Lewy passed away July 15, 2006. Together they raised five children, whom Diane is survived by, Susan and Roger Wesley, Edward and Suzanne Usher, John and Christine Usher, Bill and Sue Usher, and Barbara and Roger Swanson. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; her sisters, Lurlean Tank, Rose Bartz, and brothers, Ronald and Jim Smith. The family thanks the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital staff and the wonderful volunteers at Kylar Glen Hospice house services and care. A celebration of Diane’s life will be held at her Memorial service at St. Andrew’s church on October 3, 2015. Visitation at 11:00, service at 12:00. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Kylar Glen or Grand Itasca Foundation.
