Obituary of Richard Sowa

Richard Sowa, of Saginaw, 71, went to spend eternity with his loving wife, Julia, on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at Solvay Hospice House, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Richard was born on Nov. 26, 1943 to Fred and Alyce (Opien) Sowa. He married Julia Engman Olsen on Jan. 2, 1970 and worked as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement. Richard enjoyed spending time with family and friends and also enjoyed hunting, gardening, cooking and smoking trout and salmon. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Julia; his parents; brothers-in-law, Tom Dittberner and Charley Engman. Richard is survived by his children, Julie Worden, Lori (Dave) Olsen, Robert (Beth) Olsen, Richard (Peggy) Olsen and Kenneth Olsen; sisters, Nancy Sowa and Janet Dittberner; grandchildren, Rae Ann, Amanda, Travis, Kyle, Lars, Brooke, Ryan, Madison, Mike, Kathy and Jackie; great-grandchildren, Sariana, Mandalyn, Amariah, Cayden, Callie and Finn; sisters-in-law, Christine (Larry) Peterson and Delores Engman; brother-in-law, Herman (LaVonne) Engman; many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank friends and neighbors for spending quality time with Richard. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Essentia Hospice, Marywood Assisted Living and Solvay Hospice House for their devoted care. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 in the Twig Community Center. Per Richards wishes, no funeral/memorial service will be held,.
