Obituary of Margaret J. Lear
Margaret Johnson Lear, of White Bear Lake, MN, died Saturday the 10th of October, 2015, at the age of 99. Born April 7, 1916, on a farm outside of Cooperstown, ND, Margaret was one of ten children. She graduated from high school at the age of sixteen and came to the Twin Cities in 1935, where she did some modeling and worked as a waitress at The Bridge Cafe in Dinkytown. In 1938 she met and married Harry Curtis Lear. They lived in Duluth for three decades, moving to Virginia, Minnesota in 1968, and White Bear Lake in 1989.
Preceded in death by Harry, her husband of sixty-two years; granddaughter Gwendolyn; all of her sisters and brothers; and three nieces.
She is survived by her four children; Kathryn Harper(Darryl Goodwin), William (Vicki) Lear, Margaret (Paul) Schubert, and Joyce Fortier; grandchildren Russell, Brian, Nancy, Christopher, Andrew, Anissa, William and Peter; and ten great grandchildren.
A child of the Depression, Margaret's life was extraordinarily rich in family and friends. An avid reader, her love of history and literature inspired many, and she remained the family communicator until well into her nineties.
Margaret spent the last few months of her life at The Gables Memory Care Unit of Boutwells Landing in Oak Park Heights, MN. If you wish to remember Margaret, read a good book, thank a special teacher, or make a contribution to any Minnesota hospice.
