Obituary of Robert George Schulte

Robert George Schulte, 83, died peacefully in his sleep at St. Luke's Hospice in Duluth on the morning of Oct. 19, 2015. Robert was born on March 31, 1932 in Hallock, Minn. Robert Lettered in hockey, baseball, and football at Hallock H.S. class of 1951. Robert served in the Korean War in the 7th Armored Division, 489th Field Artillery Battalion B 1953 and 1954. He received a Bronze Star. Robert left the service in 1954 as a Corporal. He graduated from University of North Dakota, Grand Forks in 1963 with a degree in Accounting. He married Gladys Rand after meeting at work, in 1967. Robert held several positions with different companies in Minnesota during his long career as an accountant. Between 1968 and 1973, the couple welcomed three children into their home Kathryn, Pauline, and Robert and raised them in the Catholic Church. The couple and their children moved to Duluth, in 1982 after accepting a job with the Diamond Tool Company. Robert was an accomplished athlete and dedicated much of his time as a young father to developing and supporting youth sports. He enjoyed golf, spending time with his grandchildren, and remained in close contact with family. He is preceded in death by his parents August and Pauline Schulte; his siblings Laurence Schulte, Steve Schulte, Lenard Schulte, Leo Schulte, Mary Curtis, Louise Schulte, Clara Gillie and Edna Jacobson. Robert is survived by his wife Gladys Ilene Schulte; his children, Kathryn (Patrick) Maloney and their children Elena, Laura, and Olivia Maloney-Amor (Guam), Pauline (Sean) Ruddy (Anchorage, Alaska), and Robert (Lynn) Schulte and their children Victoria, Erryka, and Kaytlynne (Big Lake, Minn); his siblings Anne Kaney (Pelaluma, Calif.,) and Edwin (Yvonne) Schulte (Osseola, Wis). The family would like to thank all of his doctors, nurses, and caregivers who allowed Robert to fully enjoy his life in his last years. SERVICE: 11 a.m. Nov. 7, 2015 in Saint James Catholic Church with reception to follow. There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Condolences can be sent to Gladys Schulte.
