Obituary of Kathryn Ann Marsaa

Kathryn "Kat" Ann Marsaa 64, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, with her family by her side, after a five year battle with breast cancer. She put up quite a fight. Kat was born in Minneapolis to Lloyd and Drusilla Meese on March 21, 1951. She resided in Minnetonka for many years before moving to Duluth in 1969. Kat graduated from U.M.D. with a B.S. Degree, majoring in art. She worked a number of years in the Ad Dept., as an illustrator for Maurices in Duluth. Kat struck out on her own as a freelance graphic artist working for various ad agencies, book publishers and doing a variety of projects for businesses and private parties. She was also a skilled seamstress and was hired by the Minnesota Ballet, where she designed and constructed costumes for two major productions, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Kat was born a person with a big heart and a creative soul. Her greatest joy was artistic creation, whether the medium was pencil, chalk, oils, fabrics, or her many flowers gardens. She enjoyed time spent with her book and quilting club friends; she loved them all. An avid reader and traveler rounded out her world. She was a good and faithful friend with a quick smile, genuinely interested in what you had to say. Kat will be sadly missed by all she knew. Kat was preceded in death by her mother, Drusilla and her father-in-law, Ray Marsaa. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, John Marsaa; daughter, Erin (Nik) Wourms of Duluth; her beloved grandchildren, Brita and Karl; father, Lloyd Meese of Minnetonka, Minn.; brothers, Dr. David (Mary Jo) Meese of Ormond Beach, Fla., Robert (Nancy) Meese of Excelsior, Minn.; mother-in-law, Mary Marsaa of Duluth; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the caring and capable staff of St. Luke's Oncology and Hospice Unit.
