Obituary of Hubert Hartigan

Hartigan, Hubert Michael age 78 of Minneapolis, died May 7, 2018. Mike loved spoofing his friends and family. When asked how he was enjoying his retirement, he joked he spent all of his time managing the huge royalties from his bestseller, How to Make Money by Writing a History of the American Way of Making Money. He was a history buff and devout Catholic, loved chocolate, manhattans, good cigars, British television shows and classical music. He attended West High School and the University of Minnesota, and worked as a court clerk for Hennepin county for over 30 years. Although he had no biological children of his own, he was passionate about mentoring at-risk young people, whom he referred to as his 'kids'. He never had a driver's license, preferring to walk most everywhere, and could be found strolling around Lake Harriet, puffing a cigar, nearly every night. He died three days before his 79th birthday, preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Lyle, and brothers William, Patrick and Bruce. He is survived by his sister, Punkin Hubbell, brother-in-law John, many nieces, nephews and cousins and his number one 'kid', Nicolai Plattes. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on Thursday, May 17th. Visitation at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m., and luncheon afterward.
