Obituary of Charlene Elizabeth Peura Miller

Charlene Elizabeth Peura Miller, 91, peacefully passed away on November 7th at Diamond Willow in Proctor with family at her side. Charlene held a bachelor's degree in Education and a master's degree in English Literature. Her lifelong love of books was matched by her love of the arts, and she had a keen eye for seeing beauty in life. She was devoted to family in the broadest sense, warmly engaging with many in her neighborhood, community and beyond. She was proud of her membership in SGI-USA and her practice of Nichiren Buddhism, a faith she kept to the end of her life. Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, longtime UMD professor and administrator R. Dale Miller. She is survived by her stepson Ralph Dale (Joyce) Miller, Jr., son Nicholas Dale Miller, daughter Lisa Helen (Don) Mattsson, and grandchildren Pamela Ann Ray, Jon Dale Miller, Nicole Hope Walter, Ryan Roy Walter, and Sara Nicole Stewart. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 11/28, with a gathering of family and friends at 9:00 and a service at 10:00 a.m. in the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, 218-624-5200.
