Obituary of Sonia A. Schuster

Schuster, Sonia née Halvorson, age 86, died peacefully early November 8, 2015. Sonia will be welcomed in heaven by her many friends and family, and also leaves behind so many who loved and cherished their time with her. Sonia was born on July 29, 1929. She was delivered at home on the farm and she noted that later that day her mother prepared the evening meal for the farm hands. She and her sister Dolie were raised on the family farm, 2 miles east of Northwood, North Dakota. Sonia moved to Minneapolis where she attended school and, while working at the front desk of the Radisson Hotel, met her future husband of 46 years, Carl Jr. They were married in 1954 and raised their family, Melinda (Mimi), Carla (now in heaven) and Carl III (CH), in St Louis Park. Sonia was a homemaker, member of The S.L.P. Woman's Club, Tri-T Organization, A.R.C, and a very active member of Union Church. She also was a volunteer at Methodist Hospital. Most of all, Sonia was a true friend. Sonia was preceded in death by her parents, John and Amanda Halvorson, sister, Dolie Pratt Elken, husband, Carl JR. and daughter, Carla Schuster. She is survived by daughter, Melinda Baker; son-in-law, Matt Baker; son, Carl Henry Schuster III; daughter-in-law, Leslie Schuster; grandchildren, Misha Baker, Alexandra Schuster and Jake Schuster; niece, Shelley Becker; nephews, Tim and John Pratt, as well as many cousins and friends. Memorial service will be Saturday, November 14 at 11:00 AM followed by lunch, at Union Congregational Church, 3700 Alabama Avenue South, St. Louis Park, MN 55416. In lieu of flowers, Sonia has requested memorials to the Union Church Kitchen fund.
