Obituary of Guilford Sandilands Lewis
Guilford Sandilands Lewis (Sandy) died at home in Duluth, Minnesota on May 14, 2018. He will be dearly missed as brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin, uncle and friend.
He was born to Douglas Hammond Lewis and Judith Hartley Lewis in Duluth, Minnesota on November 17, 1924. Sandy served in the Navy in the Pacific in World War II. After the war he returned to Duluth and worked at Central State Bank and Park State Bank before joining Western National Bank in 1952. He retired from Western National Bank in 2005. Sandy and Rondi then joined Chef and grandson Sean Lewis to start Nokomis Restaurant from 2005-2012.
Sandy married Mary Katherine Stephenson in 1948 and they had eight children before divorcing in late 1960s. Mark (Monica) Lewis of Eau Claire, WI, Stephen (Barbara) Lewis of Duluth, Katherine (Dick) Hall Rogers of Winter Park, Florida, David Lewis (Barbara Erickson) of St. Paul, Patricia (Martin Lee) Lewis of Duluth, Rebecca (Jeff Denny) Lewis of Duluth, Caroline (Bill Buckner) Lewis of Charleston, SC and Brian Lewis of Minneapolis.
Sandy married Rondi Erickson in 1974.
He is survived by his wife Rondi of Duluth and Minneapolis, his sisters Jean Lewis Paul of Miami Beach and Caroline Lewis Morrison of Miami, his children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of his life July 15, 2018 in the Bayfront Ballroom at Pier B Resort. Gathering of friends and family begins at 2pm followed by a program at 3pm.
