Obituary of Margie Mary Matheson
Margie Mary Matheson passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. She was 97 years old.
Margie was born on August 4, 1918 to Roy and Esther Hollingsworth in the Village of Revere, Minnesota. She was the oldest of 4 children. The family moved to Duluth Minnesota and settled in Morgan Park where Margie grew up. She graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1937.
Margie married Ken Matheson at St. Margaret Mary Church in 1938. They made their home in Morgan Park and when Ken left for the war, Margie worked at Piggly Wiggly and later at St. Luke’s and the Morgan Park Pharmacy.
Margie and Ken had an open door policy for all. Friends, neighbors and relatives were always at the house and they were always surrounded by love, food, laughter and song. Her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren benefitted from her care and love.
Margie and Ken just had an anniversary of 77 years on November 26, 2015. That must be a record! They spent the last days of her life together and we were all so grateful that she was able to stay home. Margie had a faith that sustained her in all her days. We have so many joyful memories to sustain us.
She is survived by her husband, Ken; her three daughters, Colleen Birt, Bonnie Matheson and Maureen Matheson; sisters, Hazel Brock and Joyce Sletten all of Duluth; grandchildren, Michael (Robin) Birt of Madison, WI, Becky (Andy) Krubsack of Duluth, Krista (Mark) Wight of Minneapolis; Jennifer (John) Yerhot of Roseville, CA and Daniel Larva and wife Lynnea Emerson and their children Cayden and Lily Berglund; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Ava Birt, Aela, Abbey and Brendan Krubsack, Kathryn, Regan and Scarlett Wight, Ethan and Claire Yerhot.
The family extends a special thank you to Margie’s caregivers, Bonnie Aase, Jayne Keene and Rebecca Gudowski as well as the staff of St. Luke’s Hospice.
Gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until the 10:30 am memorial service on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Cremation Society of Minnesota 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth, MN. Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200
