Obituary of Dorothy Vilen

Dorothy Katherine Vilen, born March 16, 1915, entered into eternal peace on December 1, 2015 at Elim Home, Princeton, MN. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and was adopted and the only child of the late Effie (Dunbar) and Reuben Olsen, Lancaster, Minn. She went to Cannon Township country school in Lancaster through 8th grade and then finished off her high school at Lancaster High School graduating in May of 1933. She married Davis Alof Vilen on June 7, 1933. They moved from place to place until 1935, when they settled at the Roy Sundberg farm three miles west of Hallock where they lived until retirement in 1973. From there they settled into their dream homestead in Caribou, Minn. They spent happy years there until her husband became ill, at which time they moved into Lake Bronson. After her husband died Dorothy moved several times and finally to Thief River Falls, where she lived until she moved to Minneapolis to live near her daughters. She lived with Debbe for nine years and went from there to live at the Elim Home. She resided there for nearly six years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Davis, and her sons, Dave and Jim. She is survived by her daughters, Jeanette Bockwitz, New Hope, Minn., and Deborah Duden, Hopkins, Minn.; granddaughters Cindi Bockwitz, Atlanta, Ga., Cheri (Bockwitz) Toth, San Antonio, Tex., Jill (Duden) Anderson, Vancouver, Wash., Nichole (Duden) Farley, Zimmerman, Minn; great grandchildren: Jeremy Toth, Megan Farley, Jacob Duden, Kayla Farley and Halle Farley. Dorothy will be greatly missed by family and friends but has left us all with memories of coffee parties, her wonderful baking, her kindness and generous, loving heart. Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
