Gerald L. “Jerry” Johnson
Jerry passed away Saturday December 26, 2015 surrounded by his family at his home in Prescott Wisconsin. He was born on November 8, 1938 in Minneapolis to Leonard and LaVerne Johnson. They moved with his parents to a home on Pine Lake west of Finlayson in the mid-1940s. He graduated from Finlayson High School in 1958. Jerry was in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961. He was employed as a lineman at North Pine Electric until 1975. Then the family moved to Baudette and Bemidji working as a power use adviser until 1981. In 1981 he and Jan purchased a motel and started a furniture refinishing business until 1991. He then moved to Bloomington, Minnesota and retired in Prescott, Wisconsin in 2004. Jerry developed many lifelong friendships in life’s travels.Jerry had a passion for hunting, fishing and trapping throughout his life. Additionally, he enjoyed great vacations like Alaska and cruises to warm climates. Spending quality time with friends, family, and neighbors were a highlight of his life. He especially liked his visits with his five granddaughters. Jerry was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Finlayson, Minnesota and at the time of his death he was attending United Church of Christ in Prescott, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and LaVerne, and his brother Wayne. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Jan Hammond Johnson. Children Corie Loes (Dan), Jay Johnson (Leslie), Jackie Doffing, Granddaughters Carly Hagen (David), Shelby, Talia, Lucy, and Rachael. Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday December 29, 2015. Visitation will be at 10:00am and service at 11:00am at Cremation Society of Minnesota located at 1979 Old Hudson Rd. St. Paul, MN 55119 with lunch to follow in the reception room.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society.
