Obituary of Marvin A. Jacobs

Marvin A. Jacobs, age 90, of Brooklyn Park, passed away with family by his side on May 19, 2018. Marv was born on November 30,1927 in Hays, Kansas to Alex and Pauline (Waldschmidt) Jacobs. He moved to Wisconsin at the age of 12 and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. On December 30,1950 he was united in marriage to Frances Jane Schmidt in Catharine, Kansas. He served in the National Guard for 12 years and was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. This gentle man with twinkling eyes and the warmest smile will be deeply missed by his wife of 67 years; children, Geri (Lora), Mike, Mark, Gregg, Melia (Jeff); grandchildren, Jennifer (Dustin), Mark Jr. (Melanie), Matthew (Tiffany), Aki (Kirsten), Joe (Lyndsey); great-grandchildren, Brooke, Cayden, Bella, Savannah, Brantley, Easton, Jonathan and Taylor. Marv was the oldest of seven children and was preceded in death by siblings Leroy and Twila and brother-in-law, Stu. He is survived by siblings Art (Deloris), Delphine, Harv (Chell), and Don (Mary). Marv was proud of his work at the University of Minnesota in Maintenance and Operations. After his retirement in 1992 he enjoyed going on field trips and attending baseball games of his adored grandchildren. He loved having his family join him at the pancake breakfasts at St. Gerard’s. He was a Green Bay Packers fan early in life and then became a Vikings fan and was thrilled when he got to attend the Twins World Series in 1987. He made the best soups and his recipes are now being used by the younger generations. He was devoted to his wife, Fran and they spent much time together working in their yard and garden. On May 24, 2018, there will be a visitation at church 1 hour before a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 9600 Regent Ave.N, Brooklyn Park. Private internment at Gethsemane Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Charlie Weis, New Brighton Care Center staff and Ecumen Hospice especially Cindy, Sammie and Jeanette for their compassionate care of Marv and their support of the family.
