Obituary of Earl Howard Veeder
Earl Howard Veeder, 81, of Eagan, passed away at Our Lady of Peace Hospice December 31, 2015. He will be deeply missed by his children. Earl was born in Goodridge, MN on May 16, 1934 to Louis and Gina (Larsen) Smith. Earl had quite the extraordinary life. He was adopted at the age of 3 by Norma and Howard Veeder of Grey Eagle. He graduated from Upsala High School in 1952 and then entered the U.S. Army where he served in Korea as a Cannoneer. He received the Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal and the UN Service Medal. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. He married Nancy Jean Veeder in 1959. They had 4 children. Earl taught in Laurens, Iowa for several years before he moved his family to the Duluth area. He taught at Hermantown High School for 25 years. While at Hermantown, he attended the University of Minnesota in Duluth and received his Master of Arts Degree in English. He retired from Hermantown in 1986 and started a new adventure in El Salvador, Central America. There he was a professor of English at the American School and American University in San Salvador. He returned to Minnesota in 1993. Survived by his children: Troy of Albuquerque, NM, Nonnie (Melissa Jones) of Le Center, MN, Parris (Jacqueline) of Hugo, MN and Cassandra (Tim) of Savage, MN and 7 grandchildren. Memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina. Private interment, Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
