Obituary of Pauline Lange Strom

Pauline Lange Strom, age 100, of Mpls., passed away December 31, 2015. Preceded in death by parents and three siblings, her husband, Carl Daniel Strom and great-granddaughter Brynn Aila Moritz. Polly was born in Sandstone, Minnesota to immigrant parents, George and Tena Lange. She moved to Minneapolis in 1936, where she met and married Carl Strom and they raised their family. In 1957 she and Carl bought a hobby farm outside of Sandstone, where they spent many happy years with their children and grandchildren. She was generous with her time and resources. She was a gardener extraordinaire, an avid birder, and highly engaged in the world at large. Her witty observations were thought provoking and she challenged those around her to see the world in a different way. She believed in women's equality and social justice before it was de rigueur. A life-long student, she traveled the world in her later years. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1968 and taught in Minneapolis Public Schools until she retired in 1980. Survived by three daughters, Mary (Charles) Larson, Sycamore, IL; Eileen Johnson and Martha (John) Cosgrove, Mpls.; six grandchildren, Martha O'Connor, Ingrid Crepas, Samuel Johnson, Christina Moritz, Margaret Heier and Alexander Cosgrove; four great-grandchildren, Ingrid O'Connor, Hanlon O'Connor, Linden Moritz and Patrick Moritz, eleven nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Special thanks to the staff at Grace Hospice for their kindness and support. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on January 7, 2016 at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at church. Memorials preferred to donor's choice or the Salvation Army.
