Obituary of Donald C. Severtson
Donald C. Severtson, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on the afternoon of January 13 at the Prairie Senior Cottages (Isanti), surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy; son, Christopher; parents Clarence and Mary; sister, Dorothy Hamrick and is survived by sons, Steven (Yuan) & Eric (Tammy) Severtson; daughter, Leslie (Michael) Kelzenberg and seven wonderful grandchildren, Nick, Sara, Joseph, Rose, Nathan, Thomas and Evan. Don was a graduate of Anoka High School, the University of Minnesota (B.S., Economics) and served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. He held management positions for several local companies, including Prudential Insurance (1958-1964) Control Data (1964-1973) and Phillips Beverage/ Alco Standard (1973-1988) where he was the Vice President of Operations. While living in the Twin Cities, Don was active in variety local organizations such as youth sports, the Jaycees, who honored him with the 1964 Young Man of the Year Award, and local politics, serving as the manager for several state senate campaigns. Don joined Central Products Corporation (Menasha, Wisconsin) in 1989 as the Director of Corporate Logistics. Upon retiring in 1998, he returned to the twin cities area to spend time with his children and many grandchildren. Don was known as a good, caring and trustworthy man who would provide valuable counsel and meaningful assistance to those in need. Visitation (10-11 am) and a memorial service (11 am - noon) will be held on Tuesday, January 19th at the Edina Chapel of the Cremation Society of Minnesota located at 7110 France Ave. S. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Don's name to the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Mayo Clinic, 200 First Street, SW, FF 2-700, Rochester, MN 55905.
