Obituary of Eugene Edwin Stone

Eugene Edwin Stone, 93, died Jan., 20, 2016 at Essentia Medical Center in Duluth. He was born in Duluth on Feb. 2, 1922 to Arthur and Alina (Vanatalo) Stone. Gene was united in marriage to LaVerne Waisanen on May 11, 1946 in the First Methodist Church. Eugene was a graduate of Lakewood School and enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, hunting, working on his sawmill, outdoor projects at home and days at the cabin. He was a great admirer of Mother Nature's works, and special times spent with his grandchildren. He owned and operated his business, E. E. Stone Trucking until retiring in 1984. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, LaVerne of 69 years; daughter Debra Stone; son Arthur (Collette) Stone; grandchildren Eric, Brandon, Amanda, Aaron, Kaija, Elena and Bjorne; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Marion Dahl, Karin Kupczyinski, Carmen Arnold, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 in the Lakewood Town Hall, in Duluth. Memorials preferred to the Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department.
