Obituary of Roy L Shrake

Roy L Shrake, 79, of Duluth passed away Feb. 2, 2016 at Solvay Hospice House. He was born in Chamberlain, S.D., on March 10, 1936 to Morris and Mary Ellen (Longden) Shrake where he attended school. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. In 1956 he was united in marriage to Carol J Blare in Pierre, S.D. Roy worked at Homestake Gold Mine in Lead S.D. Later he became a Federal Mine Inspector for MSHA in Duluth until he retired in 1996. Roy greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and motorcycling. He had a passion for agates and rocks and enjoyed building rock houses for family and friends. During his retirement years he enjoyed panning for gold. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends and the memories he created along the way. Roy was preceded in death by his wife Carol on May 13, 2015; his parents; three sisters, Katherine Smith, Carrie Shrake and adopted sister Leora Schooler; brother Ralph Shrake and grandson Nicholas Roy Shrake. He is survived by his children, Terry (Peggy), Kim (Brian Eimer) Johnson and Bradley (Lauretta); five grandchildren, Lindsay and Hannah Johnson and Levi, Keely and Tara Shrake; two great-grandchildren, Nykki and Wyatt; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Solvay Hospice House. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 in United Church of Christ 101 N Merrill St. in Chamberlain South Dakota. Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200.
