Obituary of Frederick M. King

Frederick M. King May 11, 1942 – Feb. 5, 2016 Devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, peacefully passed away with family by his side. The only child of Marguerite and Frederick E. King, Fred grew up in St. Louis Park, obtained the honor of Eagle Scout, graduated from St. Louis Park High School and Augsburg College, and had careers in insurance and mortgage banking. He was an active member of the U.S. Coast Guard and Reservist for 33 years until his retirement as Chief Boatswain’s Mate in 2002. He began his life-long involvement in Ducks Unlimited in 1978 working the DU booth at the NW boat, sport and travel show and served as Zone Chairman for several chapters in SE Minnesota and Western WI. He was a past co-chairman for Burnsville, MN DU and the Onalaska, WI DU chapters in addition to being a DU Diamond Life Sponsor. Through his passion for wetland conservation, he received the Tommy Nelson Award for his outstanding efforts in new chapter development. Fred was an avid hunter, sportsman and conservationist. He had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He married the love of his life Cathy in 1977 and raised two children. He will be deeply missed by his loving bride of 38 years, Cathy; daughter, Amanda (son-in-law Erik Martin); son, Jim (Brittany Wiltgen); three grandchildren, Coral, Athena and Ridley Martin; cousin, Edwina Helling; many loving relatives and life-long friends. Services at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Ave. So., Edina on Fri., Feb. 19th. Gathering at 11:00 a.m., service 11:30 a.m. with luncheon to follow.
