Obituary of Kathryn Louise Johnsen
Kathryn Louise Johnsen, our dearly loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother completed her journey on Earth and was met by her Saviour on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016.
Kathryn was born Feb. 3, 1921 in Duluth, Minn. to Henry and Emelia Anderson. She was a graduate of Denfeld High School and Wheaton College.
After graduation she taught Latin and English at Moose Lake and Cloquet High Schools. Kathryn was united in marriage to Floyd T. Johnsen on July 23, 1948 and was known as "Kitty" to her friends and family.
Kitty's faith in Christ was unwavering, as was her love of her family. She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Duluth, served as a Sunday school teacher, Women's Assembly President and was a member of the Esther Circle.
Kitty and Floyd were members of ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens); she served as a board member for Duluth Regional Care and worked alongside Floyd in the development of the first DRCC Residential Group Home in Duluth.
Kitty attended Community Bible Study, and was a Core Group Leader and Servants Team Member.
She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd and her parents.
Kitty is survived by her four children, Paul (Suzanne) Johnsen, Karen (Russ) Schulz, Elizabeth "Beth" (Larry) Johnson and Keith Johnsen; eight grandchildren, Marianne, David, Eric, Elizabeth "Liz," Emily, Kyle, Kevin and Cory; and ten great-grandchildren.
We were all blessed and enriched by her generous love and wisdom so freely given.
The family will always remember the dear and precious care given to her by the Aftenro Home staff and St. Luke's Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Aftenro Home, 510 W. College St., Duluth MN 55811.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
