Obituary of Richard Conrad Jenkins

Jenkins, Richard “Dick” Conrad 79, of Duluth; formerly of Sturgeon Lake and St. Paul died from pneumonia on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital ICU in Duluth with many family members at his side. He was born in Mpls. on October 24, 1936 to Archie and Gerda Jenkins and was a graduate of Washburn H.S. He also attended St. Olaf College, the University of MN, and the MN School of Business. He had a long and successful career in purchasing and in operations management with Sterling Electric and its successor, Border States Electric. He retired in 1999 after over 40 years of service. Besides loving hockey, reading, musical theatre, and his beloved Lake Superior, Dick was an avid choral singer in the Frederick Hillary Chorale and was a longtime member of the Central Lutheran Church Senior Choir. He later also sang in the Sounds of Hope ensemble at Hope Lutheran Church in Moose Lake. He loved his family and friends unconditionally and his grandchildren were his special joy and enriched his life greatly. He will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marion Kipp and Dorothy Bast. He is survived by Carol Schultz, his loving wife of 32 years; sister, Gwen (Max) McIntyre; daughters, Jody (James) Halverson, Jill (Tony) Orhn, Jennifer (Rodney) Franta, and Janna (Gary) Huset; son, James (Amy) Jenkins; grandchildren, Erin, Nathan, Samantha, Ethan, Madeline, Jacob, Kelsi, Brittney, Brandye, Luther, Julius, Corbyn, Branick, and Cooper; great grandsons, Hendrik and Jameson; sisters-in-law, Linda (Bruce) Henning and Deanna Schultz; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Timothy Kleinschmidt and Oncologist Dr. Anne Silva for their exceptional and compassionate care of Dick over the last five months, along with the Reverend Gregory Garmer of First Lutheran Church for his loving pastoral care. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 27 at Central Lutheran Church, 333 S. 12th Street, Mpls. with visitation at the church 1 hour prior. Memorials to Music Fund – Central Lutheran Church preferred.
