Obituary of Constance Sundquist

Constance "Koni" Sundquist, age 88, Duluth Mn, died on May 31, 2018 as she wished at home. Koni was born on September 1, 1929 to Freda (Bielke) and Edward Schramm. She was raised with her devoted siblings in Hutchinson, MN, by her Christian mother. She met Norman Sundquist in high school and married her hard-working husband at 18. They had three children, Lance, Scott and Letha. They settled in Duluth in 1962 where Koni loved her family, home, garden and birds. Koni served as the Rose Society President and Director of the Rose Garden and protected it from destruction by I-35 to what we have today. She was Audubon Society President and one of the founders of the Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve. She banded thousands of birds in her backyard and ran a local bird ambulance for wounded birds. She wrote "scathing" letters to the editor to encourage citizen participation. Her laugh and sense of humor were everything to her family and friends. She is survived by her son Lance Sundquist of Hibbing, MN and her daughter Letha (David) Sundquist DeCaires of Kailua, HI; sister Delphine (Schramm) Parish of Minneapolis, MN and brother David (Shirley) Schramm of Glenwood, MN; Aunt Alma (Bielke) Ness Battle Ground, WA; grandchildren and greats, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Earl Schramm, husband Norm and son Scott. Friends are invited to celebrate her life at her home at noon, Saturday, June 9, 2018.
