Esther Hill, 80, a lifelong resident of Duluth, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Emil and Aslaug Peterson; sister, Ruth Perry; brother, Herbert Peterson. She is survived by her husband of nearly 56 years, Stanley Hill, who she married on July 7, 1962. After studying the Bible together they were baptized on May 1, 1965. Esther is also survived by her brother, Clifford Peterson and his wife, Carol, Esther’s loving and loyal companion; her sister-in-law, Irene Curtiss, three daughters, Cynthia Ward, Angela Modin, Lisa Sundberg; eight grandchildren: (in order by age) Cerissa Nyen, Brandon Ward (Adrienne), Jacob Nyen, Shawn Ward (Sherry), Zachary Sundberg (Lauren), Megan Berg, Matthew Ward, and Collin Ward (Zayda); two great grandsons: Wyatt Berg and Maximus Sundberg; many nieces and nephews and special, longtime friends. Esther was a member of the Duluth Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Although, in later years, she was unable to physically attend, she would listen in by telephone. Esther was greatly comforted by the scriptures (2 Corinthians 1:3-4) and often shared its messages of hope with others via telephone or letter writing. Esther believed Jehovah would one day awaken the dead, as if from a sleep, and give them life again on a Paradise earth. (Job 14:14-15). This hope gave her immense peace in her final hours. Esther was an avid reader and letter writer; keeping in touch with family and friends. She enjoyed knitting and watching classic old movies. The family of Esther Hill would like to extend a special thank you to Edgewood Vista Assisted Living and the St. Luke’s Hospice Staff for their care.
