Harlan Bratvold
1925 - 2016
Harlan Bratvold, of Minneapolis, MN, died peacefully on 3/25/16. Born in Boise, ID, on 1/17/1925; graduated from Emmett (ID) High School in 1943 and from Oregon State University in chemical engineering in 1947. He moved to Chicago, where he met his future wife and began his lifelong career at Underwriter’s Laboratories. He resided in Fox River Grove, IL, until retiring to Keshena, WI, in 1991. Harlan shared his love of Idaho with his children through visits to his home state. Later in life he enjoyed outdoor activities, round dancing, and entertaining family and friends at the lake cabin in WI. He moved to Minneapolis, MN, in 2007. Harlan will be remembered for his pranks, his violin playing, his gumba (aka baloney), and his love of Norwegian lefse and gamalost. Preceded in death by wife, Patricia, and grandson Zachary. Survived by children: Patrice, Gretchen, Brian, Delma and Laura; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren. Many thanks to longtime caregiver, Mary Kormah, and to staff at Walker Place and The Alton Memory Care. Celebration of Life April 29, 3:30 pm, at Walker Place, 3701 Bryant Ave. S., Minneapolis. Memorials preferred to The Nature Conservancy or Walker-Methodist Foundation.
