Obituary of Margaret Goetzenberger

Margaret (Flygare) Goetzenberger, of St. Louis Park, died on March 25th at age 102. Preceded in death by husband John, and brothers Everard, Ellis and Bob. She is survived by daughters Judie (Pete) Mather and Carol (Tom) Ferring, grandsons Dan (Rollie) Mather and Dale (Melinda) Mather, sisters-in-law Carol Oja and Harriet Flygare and many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret grew up in South Haven MN and graduated from Annandale High School. She received her nursing degree from Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in 1936 and she married John in 1937. They lived in Minneapolis until 1949 when the family moved to SLP. Margaret continued her nursing career in the newborn/premie nurseries at Methodist Hospital from 1959 until she retired in 1976. After retiring she stayed active sewing bags for her grandson's company, where she acquired the nick-name "The Bag Lady." She was a volunteer at Lenox Senior Center for many years and also an active member of the Woman's Club of SLP. She especially enjoyed their knitting group. Margaret was well-loved, witty and caring. She appreciated a good joke and possessed a remarkably positive attitude. She loved singing and was a past-member of the St. Louis Park "Super Singers." A celebration of Margaret's life will be held on Friday, April 15th at Union Congregational Church, 3700 Alabama Ave So, St. Louis Park. Service will begin at 11:00 with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a charity of choice.
