Obituary of Daniel Charles Bruch

Dr. Daniel Charles Bruch, born on January 9, 1939, in Waverly, Iowa, to Rev. Bernard and Mathilda Bruch, passed away on January 13, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, including his wife of 62 years, Dr. Elizabeth Ann Bruch.

Raised in rural Iowa, Daniel, with the unwavering support of his beloved wife, achieved remarkable academic success. He earned three doctorate degrees: a Doctor of Ministry, a Doctor of Sociology, and a Ph.D. in Education.

Dr. Bruch dedicated his life to education and service, making a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals. He taught at colleges, universities, and seminaries in Hungary, Romania, Serbia, the Czech Republic, and throughout the United States. As a minister, he served parishes across the U.S. and churches in Bali, Indonesia. He also served as a certified emergency room and police chaplain, providing compassion and support to those in crisis. In the early 2000s, he co-founded The Purple Tree, a social enterprise, with his wife and daughters.

Above all, Dan’s greatest joy came from his steadfast partnership with Elizabeth, with whom he raised four beautiful daughters: Angela, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Leah. Together, they traveled the world, experiencing diverse cultures and creating lasting memories. In retirement, Dan cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a passionate writer and a columnist for the local newspaper, using his voice to advocate for the less fortunate.

Dan will be forever remembered for his love of cars, his kindness, his unwavering dedication to helping others, and his constant message of “peace and love.” He is survived by his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Ann Bruch; his sister, Doris Strieter (Ron Redder); his brother, Thomas Bruch (Linda Bruch); his four daughters and their spouses: Angela Bruch (Denny Beck), Elizabeth M. Bruch (Dave Gage), Sarah Bruch (Brian Burbach), and Leah Bruch (Ted Goetsch); nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and fourteen nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 115 4th St N, Stillwater, MN 55082. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) or The Phipp’s Center for the Arts.
