Obituary of David E. Herder
David E. Herder, affectionately known as Herman, passed away unexpectedly on January 4, 2025, at the age of 62. He was born on August 25, 1962, and grew up in Lake Elmo, Minnesota. A proud graduate of Stillwater High School, Herman dedicated his working life as a laborer with Peterson Companies.
Herman is survived by his loving father, David Herder; his sisters, Sue Rebertus and her husband Ron, and Julie Herder; and his brothers, Jeff Herder and his wife Karin, and Craig Herder. He will be dearly missed by his nephews AJ Herder, Travis Westlund and his wife Brandie (great niece Kaylen, great nephews Easton and Ryker), and Austin Herder and his wife Kayli (great nephew Henry and great niece Everly). He is also survived by his niece Anna Westlund, nephew Cole Herder, niece Claire Herder, and nephew Colton Herder. Herman was predeceased by his beloved mother, Pauly Herder.
Herman cherished spending time ice fishing on Mille Lacs and loved making memories with his family at their hunting cabin. He especially enjoyed spending time at Lake Vermilion. Some of his greatest joys included playing softball, fishing with cousins and friends, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and cutting wood. As an avid hunter, he treasured countless hours spent in deer stands as well as hunting grouse. His most significant achievement was being the best uncle/great uncle and godfather that he could be.
Herman, a dedicated angler and hunter, found his solace in the waters of Mille Lacs, Oriniack and at the family cabin in Embarrass. His love for these special places will be cherished by all who knew him.
A celebration of life for Herman will be held in the spring of 2025, where friends and family will come together to honor his memory and share in the joy he brought to so many.
