Obituary of Doris Jean Peterson
Doris Jean Peterson, 93, of Bloomington, MN, passed peacefully and
surrounded by family on Saturday, January 4, 2025, after an unexpected
health complication. Doris was 8 days shy of her 94th birthday but the loss
was still too soon for her family.
Doris was born on January 12, 1931, in Harrisburg, PA, and grew up in
Minneapolis MN. She married Wallace "Wally" Peterson on April 22, 1950, and
joined Wally when he served in the Army from 1952-54 at Fort Eustis, VA.
They eventually moved back to MN to build a home and raise their family in
Bloomington. They were married for 68 years prior to Wally's passing in
2018.
Doris was employed in a variety of occupations including bookkeeping,
secretarial, and her most valuable of all, as a homemaker for her beloved
family. She enjoyed knitting, baking, and gardening. In more recent years,
she became an avid book reader, often enjoying 2-3 per week. She supported
her kids and grandkids in their sports and activities, and was always their
biggest fan. Above all, she enjoyed family time, and one never drove away
from her home without her kneeling on the couch with the biggest smile, and
waving out the window. Doris was loving and gracious, and her family will
miss her incredible kindness and sense of humor, exhibited even on her last
day.
Doris is survived by daughter Debra (Dennis) McTighe of Glencoe MN, son
Thomas (Julie) Peterson of Chaska MN, and three grandchildren, Erica (Tyler)
Peterson Karl, Ashley Peterson, and Rachel Peterson, as well as many other
loving relatives and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Wally, son Terry Peterson, mother
Florence Solberg, and brothers Robert Solberg and William Solberg.
A memorial celebration of Doris' life will be held at the Cremation Society
of MN, 7110 France Ave S, Edina, MN, on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
Visitation starts at 1:00pm, followed by a service at 2:00pm, and reception
immediately after. Inurnment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will take
place on a future date.
If desired, memorials may be made in Doris' name to the Library Foundation
of Carver County or donor's choice.
